History of cotton

 


The history of cotton as a marketable commodity and clothing material goes a long way with human existence. There are evidences of cotton use found in ancient sites that date back up to 7000 years ago.


However, there are instances which are more specific to the location. 

3000 BC in Pakistan, cotton was being planted, harvested and woven into clothe. In parallel, the same process had started for civilizations around the Nile.


Cotton was already been grown in the Americas before America was discovered by the West in 15th century.

For Europe, cotton was introduced to the continent by Arab merchants in the first century. By the age of industrialization, cotton grew as a clothing material and now known all over the world.
