Mansa Musa ๐ค
Mansa Musa was the tenth Mansa (emperor) of the gold wealthy west African Islamic Mali empire. He ruled in the 14th century.
Musa's predecessor appointed him as deputy while going on an expedition of which he never returned and Mansa Musa became the ruler.
Mansa Musa became the richest in history through the gold mines found in his kingdom and the business of slave trade. Most sources and historians believe Musa is the wealthiest, according to Times magazine; "there's really no way to put an accurate number on his wealth ๐ฎ." The number proposed by some is far richer than the world's richest ๐ฒ, about $400billion.
His generosity of dashing gold dust on his Pilgrimage to Mecca destroyed the economies of countries he passed through, it was recorded he rectified itโ๏ธ. (A man controlling economies, imagine !).
Mansa Musa rewarded the efforts of his generals who made conquests for the empire. He was one who loved people and he showed it. He brought back scholars and architects on his journey and improved the education and building projects in the empire. During his period, Mali empire experienced urbanization and was at it's peak of development.
Though his palace is gone, the university and mosque attributed to him still stand in Timbuktu today.
๐ค Mansa Musa was a leader known not only for his wealth but his heart for the people in generosity, development, appreciation and sacrifice. He was someone who saw his errors and corrected it.

ReplyDeleteThe simplicity of your write-up is remarkable. I remember studying the life of Mansa Kankan Musa during my history classes as an undergraduate. Thanks for the refresher.

DeleteHmmm, what a life, "He was someone who saw his errors and corrected them'' many leaders saw their errors and never correct them, they simply allow their ego to get in the way.
