Vaquita (a fish)

   In Spanish, Vaquita means "little cow."It is a sea mammal and a unique species of Porpoise. They're one of the most endangered world species endemic to the Northern part of the Gulf of California.

    They have dark markings on their eyes, patches on their lips and a line that extends from their dorsal fins to their mouth. All these give them a facial appearance of wearing make up 🤣.

     The female's are larger than males as they mature, they communicate with high pitched sounds to locate each other. Vaquitas are not easily seen on water surfaces because they are not hasty in feeding nor swimming, they have a quiet lifestyle. They are mostly alone except with their young calf. They reproduce after every one or two years and feed in waters with high nutrient content.

    They have no close relatives and are on  every world list of almost extinct species. The gillnets trapping most of the dead Vaquitas found were set by fishermen for Totoaba (another fish) causing them large accidental deaths.

    Conservation effort is being made largely by the authorities in North America to preserve these wonderful species of fish, Vaquita 😇.
