Angkor Wat ☺️

Nicknamed city of gods and Kings, Angkor Wat literally translates in Khmer language to mean "city/ capital of temples."

It is located in Angkor, Siem Reap Cambodia (South east Asia) within a forest. The temple is the largest religious building in the world seating on about 165 hectares of land. Angkor Wat was designed to represent mount Meru of Hindu mythology. Originally built by one of the khmer Kings in 12th century as a Hindu temple and later converted to a Buddhist one. Apart from these, there are other differing reasons believed to be the basis of it's construction.
Angkor Wat boasts of architectural unity and cultural beauty with it's enormous bas relief and designs carved on its walls.
It's peculiarity lie in its orientation to the west rather than east of most Angkorian temples. Travellers who have visited starting from the past century have testified of it's magnificence.

Today, among other Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat stands tall and grand after surviving civil war, deterioration and finally restoration. It appears on the Cambodian national flag and is a national symbol.
