Chocolate

Chocolate served as currency in the Aztec civilizations of 15th century AD. The government accepted chocolate as tax/tribute because they couldn’t grow cocoa in the Mexican lands they occupied. The love for chocolate made it that important.

Before then, the Mayas were the earliest drinkers of chocolate - warm one 😂, as far back as 20th century BCE. After the Aztecs ruled the Maya, the love for chocolate spread.

Chocolate was introduced first to Spain after the Spanish conquest of South America in the 1500s, from there it spread to the high patrons of London society where political discussions were held in Tea houses serving chocolate.

Chocolate gradually achieved its various forms and flavors; powder, milk, vanilla etc chocolate in its raw form is bitter but sugar has been added to most of those we now consume.

Now, chocolate has been found to have health benefits as an anti-oxidant. It helps the heart except when taking in uncontrolled rations does it predispose to obesity.
