J. K Rowling

Joanne Rowling wrote and read fantasy stories for her sister when they were children. She based most of her characters on real life persons she had met. For example, her headmaster in primary school was her inspiration for Albus Dumbledore and because her parents met in Kings cross station (train station) it became the gateway to Hogwarts.

A graduate of French and classics, Joanne worked as a bilingual secretary for amnesty international before moving to Portugal as a foreign languages teacher where she met her first husband.

Joanne Rowling was writing the first chapters of Harry Potter at a low point in her life - just divorced from an abusive husband with one kid and virtually penniless, she lost her mother and moved back to the United Kingdom.

The idea for Harry Porter had come to Joanne on a train delay from work to her home.

J.K became her pen name because the publisher feared teenagers won’t read from a female author, then she adopted Kathleen as her middle name.

A known philanthropist, avid supporter of internationalism, mother to three children and continuing as an author, J.K Rowling makes the fantasy genre a household fantasy 😁
