Mount Rushmore

 

In Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, massive sculpting of four heads of former United States presidents are etched into the rock.

Completed in mid 20th century, Mount Rushmore is a national memorial of the impact four presidents made in the nation’ history.

From left-right; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. They represent USA’ birth, growth, development and preservation respectively.

George Washington was the first president, Theodore served at the turn of 20th century - the birth of the Industrial Age, Abraham Lincoln was in office during the civil war and was one of the last casualties of the war.

Mount Rushmore was chosen for its location which faces the Sun, highlighting the giant 18 metres of heads on rock. 

Presently, the Sioux nation (Native American tribes) demand the return of the land on which Rushmore monument stands as it was forcefully taken from them.
