The Atomium

The Atomium is constructed in the shape of an atom with the inner core nucleus and outer electrons.

The Atomium stands tall in the northern part of Brussels, Belgium - capital of the country and that of the European Union.

The Atomium is an engineering marvel built for the 1958 world fair held in Belgium. It was used to portray better things hoped in the use of nuclear power post WWII.

1958 😊

Plans were that the Atomium would last 6 months after the exposition, but it has survived more than half a century.

The Atomium has 9 spheres connected by tubes to the centre sphere. The elevator installed in the tubes is the fastest in Europe.

The Atomium was renovated in 2004-2006 and currently has a restaurant with a panoramic view of the city.

The Atomium also has a museum and an art centre.

The Atomium is one of the most visited tourist sites in Central Europe. It is the national symbol of Belgium.
