Great Seto Bridge

The world has a lot of suspension bridges. Great Seto bridge in Japan connects two main islands - Honshu and Shikoku - and smaller ones in between.

Great Seto was completed in 1988 for road and rail transport. It has 6 named sections formed by the smaller islands in between including Kita Bisan Seto bridge, Yoshima bridge among others.

Prior to construction, ferry passage was dangerous taking 1 hour to cross this bit of the ocean. Since completion, Great Seto has helped overcome issues of weather and life, improving communication and business.

Tourism is promoted for Great Seto through a scenic view from the memorial park, souvenir shops and Japanese gardens for children.

Sister bridges in the world to Great Seto include Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
