Suez canal

Suez Canal was built in the 19th century. It’s mainly serves as an alternative shorter distance for maritime vessels moving from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean (via Red Sea) for trade.

The man-made waterway was constructed from Port Said to Port Suez, effectively dividing Africa land mass from Asia.

From ancient times and rulers like Darius, various attempts at building a canal - especially between the Nile and other Rivers - in the land of Pharaohs have been made.

The Suez canal reduces the time of navigation from Europe around Africa, effectively bypassing Africa to the Near East. Interestingly, species in the Red Sea are also making use of the canal to move into the Mediterranean 🤓
