Forbidden city

For people like me who watch Chinese historical series, most likely your attention would have been drawn to a particular hall used for imperial ceremonies.

The stairs they ascend to become emperor or empress.

Or, the large number of residences; cold palace, Xuan yan hall, Eastern palace, West gate...

Meridian gate.

Most of the time, all these scenes are in the forbidden city which serve as a shoot site for these series. And well, forbidden city is said to have 8,886 rooms 👀, 980 buildings, an inner and outer court amidst other structures.

The forbidden city is a palace complex in Beijing, China. It was completed by the Ming dynasty in 1420 and for 500 years onward served as the imperial residence and centre of governance for the empire.

But with the enormous size of forbidden city at 72 hectares, it is not the largest palace complex. Other imperial residences in China surpass it in size.

“Forbidden” from forbidden city in English is a mistranslation of the root word for “place where the celestial emperor lives.”

Well, I have got some places to tour. 🚶🏾‍♀️🚶🏾‍♀️🚶🏾‍♀️
