“Magic flute”

Mozart’s magic flute is an opera which tells the story of prince Tamino, Pamina, Papageno as the main cast. Others are Sarastro, queen of the night and Papagena.

Characters - starting with Tamino, ends with Sarastro.

As the symphony of the orchestra plays, the acts from the play also evolves. 

The story starts with prince Tamino lost and running from a serpent, he falls unconscious and is rescued by 3 ladies attending the Queen of the night. Because of their arguments from prince Tamino’s handsomeness, the three ladies are absent when Papageno - a lover of ladies and dressed as a bird claims their victory instead and boasts to Tamino.

The 3 attendants return and punishes Papageno after which the Queen arrives; a lover of darkness. She shows her daughters picture Pamina to Tamino promising her hand if he rescues her from Sarastro. Tamino falls in love with Pamina from the picture and agrees.

To aid their quest, the Queen and attendants gives Tamino the “magic flute” which turns sorrows to joy and for Papageno they give magic bells for protection.

At Sarastro’s temple, they realize that the Queen lied about Sarastro’s character. Tamino and Pamina meets but Tamino goes through various tests before he was deemed worthy of Pamina. In the tests, he makes use of his magic flute to tame animals....


In one of the tests, Papageno meets an old woman by the name Papagena, falls in love with her and requests her hand from Sarastro. She later changed into a pretty lady and they ended up together. In the end, light triumphed darkness.

Mozart composed this piece of music in the 18th century and in a way shows his support of free masonry. Till date, Mozart’s magic flute is a favorite among classic operas.
