Taj Mahal

  The resting place of Mumtaz Mahal. The marble edifice built in the 17th century by the mighty Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan as a testament of he and his wife's, Mumtaz love. Mumtaz died while being delivered of their 14th child 😶.
Mumtaz Mahal
 Taj Mahal seats on a 42 acre land site south of the Yamuna river in Agra, an ancient city of India, capital of the empire.
It was a project which involved more than 20,000 workmen with billions of dollars as it's current estimate. It's foundation rests on a plinth (a pedestal/slab for a statue).
The Taj Mahal signifies the richness of the Mughal architecture and combines a lot of design from earlier similarly built structures. The edifice involves;

  • The plinth (foundation),
  • Tomb (main structure),
  • Mosque (built to the west),
  • Minarets (pillars),
  •  Jawab and
  • The gateway.

It's four minarets are slightly inclined outwards to prevent it's collapse on the tomb in case of an earthquake. The Mosque and Jawab are the outlying structures on each side of the tomb.
The Taj Mahal has a lot of calligraphy on it's walls, motifs, tiles and inlaid precious stones which decorate it.

 It has been named as one of the new wonders of the world inviting millions of tourists every year.
The building of 17th century love.

 Gist piece - the emperor was later imprisoned by himself and Mumtaz's son because the amount he lavished on the building affected the empire 🤫💃.
