Japanese Quail

Japanese Quail is a specie of old world quail found in East Asia from a class of unusual Aves (birds). They're native to East Asian countries and Africa with some found in Europe. They were traced in history to the 12th century and have been classified from common quail to subspecies.
Quails are coloured in brown patches. The markings on their body makes them sexually differentiated i.e distinguish male from female.

They're a stable source of protein through meat and egg which can amount to 300 eggs laid in a year. They're used extensively as research animals in laboratories for their features one of which is fast growth. Their adult weight is about 90g.

As birds, they like to bathe with dust (they're hygienic) to remove parasites and like local birds feed on millet feeds, insects, larvae in the presence of light 😅. Quails have 28 different call (sound) patterns based on what they're communicating and different behaviours associated with each call.

Despite their small size their sense organs function effectively like other birds. They exhibit both monogamous and polygamous relationships.
Quail was domesticated in Japan in the early 1900's.
