Lake Retba

The pink lake of Senegal is called Lake Retba or Lac Rose (French translation), it simply means pink lake. It lies north of Cape vert peninsula which is northeast of Dakar, the capital city of Senegal.
The pink colour is caused by the presence of Dunaliella Salina algae which produces red pigment to aid itself in it's photosynthetic activity.
It has a high salt content (saline) which is harvested by the locals to preserve fish. While harvesting, they protect their skin by rubbing it with shear butter. The species inhabiting the lake are small and adapted to it's saline conditions.

Lake Retba was once the host of the Dakar rally. It produces enough upthrust for people to float 😘. The lake is separated from the ocean on Senegal's coast by narrow vegetation.
There are other pink lakes in the world like Spencer lake, lake Hiller and  Hutt lagoon in Australia.

If I can't swim, I can sha float in lake Retba 😉.
