Satire

Satire is a genre of literary work that makes use of exaggeration, irony, derision in describing the pitfalls of politics.

As is to be expected, politicians have their shortcomings and satire highlights those shortcomings to catch fun. It is a form of censure.

While satire may not be so nice as regards the subject of interest - a politician - it’s good to note that it promotes free speech and helps to develop literary art.

In Nigerian, politicians are ridiculed almost everyday; because of their glaring failures. A well known satirist is Fela Anikulapo Kuli who created satire through his music.

As satire helps to create fun out of a seeming mess, it’s important to note that it also serves a means of correction.
Satire opens up a path that shows a better alternative for decisions politicians make. Therefore, whether in writing, music or comedy - whatever form satire should take - social reform should be the goal.
