The Shard
Presently the highest building in the United Kingdom, the Shard was built to offer three levels of human use - workspace, luxury/comfort, residence. These levels explains the nickname - A vertical city.
From population growth and demand for modern commercial centers, the Shard was built in a “confined” space and the space was effectively maximized.
Built as a pyramid 309 metres tall, 72 floors - ground floor, workspace, Shangri La hotel, restaurants and a viewing space - the Shard was inaugurated in 2015.
Most of the construction materials used for the Shard was recycled. 11, 000 solar glass panes cover the building and filters Sun rays. The Shard’ location is one that is transport friendly, linking major paths.
The world’s landscape is rapidly transforming because of skyscrapers. Buildings contribute vastly to climate change through energy consumption and others. But, the Shard in its own little way helped conserve our environment.
