L谩szl贸 Biro

An Argentine and Hungarian. L谩szl贸 was born l谩szl贸 J贸zsef Schweiger a year before the new centennial (20th century) in Hungary of the Austro-Hungarian empire. For all the hopes and dreams of humans,  he lived up to expectation attending school and working as a journalist.

Being a journalist, he saw paper prints and noticed that the ink used dries faster on the newspaper and doesn’t cause a smear. This caught L谩szl贸’s attention because the pen used in in this period didn’t have this quality.

L谩szl贸 tried this ink with a fountain pen, it was too viscous but after resolving this challenge alongside his brother who was a chemist, a new pen worked out - a new invention.

But then WW1 broke out. Being an Hungarian Jew, L谩szl贸 fled for his life by moving to Argentina.

Meanwhile the new invention was simply called BIRO. Today most countries still call it by this name, others; pen. Biro was mass produced by BIC company after buying the patent from L谩szl贸.

In Argentina, inventor’s day is celebrated on L谩szl贸  Biro’s birthday - September 29th. He died in Argentina in the year 1985.
