The royal castle of Blois - Chateau de Blois in Blois city, France, has 4 wings with 100 bedrooms each fully air conditioned by their fireplace ๐Ÿ˜‚


Blois castle served as the residence of various French kings between 13th to the 17th century. It was built and  modified over these periods holding a significant amount of French history. This includes the site where Joan of Arc received her blessings before going to war, the still present chamber of secrets believed to be the poison store of Catherine de’Medici ๐Ÿ˜…

The castle foundations were laid in medieval times before the 9th century. Twas repaired and used by the counts of Blois (like the kings or mayor of the city) as a court of justice afterwards.


It’s situated in the city center in Loire valley. 

It was purchased by Louis I in 14th century. After his death, Blois castle was inherited by his grandson King Louis XII.

King Louis XII made it his palace, reconstructed it and added Gothic styles to the structure. Then it lay fallow...

Stairs

In 1615, Francois I because of his wife restored Blois and added a renaissance wing. During the French wars, Henry III lived here and royals were murdered.

King Louis XIII in 1626 bequeathed it to his brother heir apparent - Gaston of France as wedding gift. Gaston added a classic wing but stopped midway when a new heir apparent was born - his nephew. 

By 18th century, Blois castle fell into disrepair and was to be demolished but it was finally preserved as a national monument in the 19th century.
