Mont Blanc

 

Mont Blanc is one of the prominent mountain peaks in Europe. It seats astride the French and Italian border. It is part of the Alps mountain range.

In 18th century, the summit of Mont Blanc was reached by mountaineers for the first time, which was recorded as the first modern mountaineering in the world.

Mont Blanc has an underground tunnel cut through the mountain for international transport of goods and services. It has cable cars and one of the cities surrounding the mountain served the first Winter Olympics.

Mont Blanc has a high rate of mountain climbers. It is popular for hiking and winter sports. Climate change has increased avalanche contributing to the number of casualties.

While not totally white, the snow capped beauty of Mont Blanc lends credence to its name.
