Eyò festival

They said Eyò was introduced to Lagos to entertain a visiting in-law...Iperu (a town in Present day Ogun state) is believed to be the source of the cultural festival.

Eyò festival is native to Yoruba culture and seen only in Lagos 🎉. It is celebrated according to custom or as occasion demands but more especially when a king departs or a new one is crowned.

The Eyò festival is mainly carried out by white clothed masquerades dancing with their staff and bright hats. All participants of the festival also pay homage to the reigning Oba of Lagos.

Eyò is also known as the Adamu Òrìshà play. The festival is believed to be the precursor of the carnival in Brazil.

As far as cultures go, Eyò has its taboos...head covers are not allowed e.t.c but viewers and tourists turn out nonetheless.

The festival was carried out in 2017 to celebrate Lagos state at 50.
