Marie Curie

 

Marie Curie gave to humanity more than we can appreciate. She was part of the league of scientists and innovators that launched the modern era we now enjoy.


Marie Curie was born in Poland - then part of the Russian empire - in the mid nineteenth century. She held on to her passion for learning despite a world that frowned against education for women.

Marie left her native land when her prowess was been denied for France where she met her husband, Pierre Curie, they would both go on to discover radioactive elements like uranium and polonium.

Marie and her husband won the Nobel prize for their discoveries in Physics. Marie was the first female to do so, she was the first to win two Nobel prizes in the sciences; physics & chemistry. She was also the first female professor in France.

Radioactivity has made modern living possible. It serves Medical field through X-rays, radiotherapy for cancers. Through Internet, the world is a global village. In geography, it is used to date and learn earth history.
